In high school, I realized that much of our quality of life (both the good and the bad) is determined by how we use energy. When I took modern physics in college, I became interested in how one can use light to measure stuff that is typically difficult to measure. In graduate school, I found these things could be combined by developing advanced measurement techniques for thermal and combustion systems.  I now teach in the energy sciences to encourage and enable others to improve the world around them.

I also enjoy time as a coach and occasional participant in baseball, volleyball, basketball, fishing, camping, hiking and running, especially if it鈥檚 with my wife and family. (OK, I don鈥檛 like running, but I know it鈥檚 good for me, and it lets me get outdoors.)
