Areeba Kazi wins Jannen Dean鈥檚 Award for Excellence

Areeba Kazi and Dr. Darrin Wilcox with Jannen Student Research AwardAreeba Kazi, a 快播 biology major from Angola, Indiana, is the winner of the inaugural Jannen School of Arts and Sciences Dean鈥檚 Award for Excellence in Student Research.

The award was presented at a small reception in the Humanities and Communication (HAC) Lounge on April 23. 

Including a letter of commendation, monetary prize and plaque, the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences Dean鈥檚 Award for Excellence in Student Research recognizes and encourages excellence in student research.

The award is open to undergraduate students from any major doing any type of research on Trine鈥檚 Angola campus. Research must be completed within the academic year.

鈥淎s a teaching-focused institution, sometimes we forget that we have faculty here conducting research. It鈥檚 even easier to overlook that we have students also doing research,鈥 said Darrin Wilcox, Ph.D., dean of the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences. 鈥淚 thought they should be rewarded in some way for their initiative and effort.鈥

Kazi鈥檚 research related to the emergence and impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on undergraduate research. She conducted the research in conjunction with her father, Haseeb Kazi, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Mathematics.

Research is evaluated on originality and innovation, research quality, impact and contribution, clarity and presentation, and ethical considerations.
